Dr. Jairo Quirós-Tortós is the coordinator of the Electric Power and Energy Research Laboratory at the University of Costa Rica. He received the Bachelor and Licentiate degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Costa Rica, Costa Rica, in 2008 and 2009 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) from The University of Manchester, U.K., in 2014. He worked as Post-doctoral Research Associate at The University of Manchester from May 2014 until February 2016 on aspects related to the integration of electric vehicles in distribution networks. He has experience working on modelling and simulation of electricity systems, both at transmission and distribution level. He has worked on transient stability, electric vehicles, and storage systems. He has been consultant in the UK and Costa Rica, and is an active researcher with international publications in controlled islanding, integration of electric vehicles and others. He is an active member and volunteer of the IEEE Power & Energy Society. Currently, he is the Regional (R9) IEEE PES Conference Liaison.
